EDITORIAL: Breaking Barriers

It was just like yesterday when we last sat down in a classroom and had a casual class. Another normal day for us but little did we know it was the last. Now, it has been more than a year since the global pandemic affected us all. Currently, we’re still indoors, deprived from physical interactions. Many grew anxious and frustrated as to what else is to come.

For us, students, our way of gaining knowledge and our interaction has changed. We all had to adjust from having a physical class to facing our digital screens for a long time. It might seem to be the new “normal” to most, yet do we have to look at it in a negative light?

School is now online, which is more convenient to work and connect with your classmates and teachers. Schools made ways for us to submit our works online rather than face-to-face. With this, communication is easier now that we are fully digital. Also, those who live from different countries can study in international schools, like here in the Philippines! We get to meet new students and also get to bond with each other!

We are like islands in the sea, separate on the surface but connected in the deep.” ― William James.

It may be challenging and scary for most who are starting digitally, but some would reach out and give you advice. To hang out, play games, and be there in times of need. This pandemic has made us closer, not just as friends but also as a family.

Being able to express and relate yourself to someone is one of the best things we can do to understand each other. That is what our school has done and why we could have this deeper bond with one another.

This year is an uncontrollable year that we would not be able to predict the outcome, but one thing for sure is that we have each other. Through that, it will strengthen and help us move on to bigger and brighter things.

Let’s look forward to this school year with our fellow friends and classmates. Onwards to better days!
