EDITORIAL_The 3d and 2d Words of Students

It’s 7'oclock a.m; on a Thursday. You wake up to the smell of breakfast in the air and immediately feel excitement or maybe hunger wash over you. In two hours, no less, you’ll get to see your classmates and friends and have another fun, productive day during your onsite classes.

But what about those stuck at home? As someone who could only attend onsite classes at least once a week, I can assure you our days start way differently than those attending onsite.

Yes, during the days that we would attend online classes, we wake up later than usual, ehem 9:30 am ehem, compared to those attending onsite. However, I can assure you that just because we don't need to leave the comfort of our own home, we still experience difficulties during onsite days.

The buggy video feed, the microphone most of the time, inability to pick up on the other students that are reciting, and most of all, the lack of socialization with our peers.

There always seemed to be an invisible barrier between onsite and online students. Yes, they get to talk to each other through a screen via Zoom meetings or discord calls, but nothing could compare to the real-time replies and face-to-face talks with our teachers and classmates.

Yes, we can say that we can get close to each other and form a bond with our classmates through a laptop or cellphone screen, but there’s always something missing from it. The feeling of talking with each other via video calls is nothing compared to having the talks we experience face to face.

Scrolling through social media or maybe playing a round or two of a video game during free time is nothing compared to being able to joke around and laugh with our friends in real life.

Yes, we do get to do that on some rare occasions, but being able to do that more often is something most online students simply long for.

I know I do.
