It must veNICE to be a Venice!

In Christian Legacy, we recognize our students’ God-gifted talents and achievements. Today, let us introduce two of our Royals that are in the field of athletics, Venice and Venice – you read that right! We’ll dig deep into how these young ladies strive for greatness within their respective sports

For our first Venice, we have Maria Venezia Arguelles. She has been a ballet dancer for 12 years and currently in her 10th grade for the S.Y. 2021-2022.

Her ballet journey started when her parents enrolled her into a ballet school at Walmart Makati when she was 3 and a half years old. For her regular ballet sessions, she trains almost everyday during pre-pandemic times. When the pandemic took over, she trained only on Sundays.

Venice was able to pursue her ballet path despite interruptions and difficulties thanks to the inspiration gained from witnessing a great model in the ballet industry since her younger times, Ms. Lisa Macuja.

Pamela Bondoc, one of Venice’s ballet mentors, is also one of her role models. Ms Pamela showed her the lesson of perseverance and being a total professional in whatever field one is on.

Venice’s superlative achievements in Ballet include participating in 7 competitions in 2019! 4 in the Philippines, 2 in Hong Kong, & 1 in Canada. As a result of her passionate & courageous spirit, Venice ended up triumphant, winning several 1st places and 2nd places.

For her parting advice, Venice shared a secret to anyone who plans to do ballet. She stated that “Don’t focus on one thing, go through something that you are passionate about.”

What an inspirational quote from Venice! We are looking forward to your future milestones, not just in ballet, but also in every path you’ll take.

And for our next Venice, we have Venice Ryanne Labay Villenas. She is 14 years old and she is currently in her 8th grade for S.Y. 2021-2022.

She has been a fencer for about 6 years now and it all started when she watched Barbie and the Three Musketeers! It was to her the defining and inspiring moment for picking up her first foil (Fencing Blade).

For training, Venice does 2 - 4 hours per day. When competitions come around, she may find herself training the entire week for 5 hours a day.

Did we forget to mention that Venice comes from an athletic family? It’s no doubt that Venice shows no signs of slowing down and slowing down is non-existent within a sporty spirit’s vocabulary!

Speaking of Venice being part of an athletic family, her father is a basketball player while her mother is a tennis player. By that, she said that her parents are her biggest inspiration due to the fact that they are athletes as well; When the going gets tough, she has her family to support and motivate her through any trial that she may face in the world of fencing.

Her main inspiration specifically for the fencing industry is Valentina Vezzali. Venice loves Vezzali’s style and flair. Vezzali won multiple Olympic Medals in Fencing during the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

Venice mentioned that her biggest achievement was winning a first place Gold medal for her fencing club at the Dr. Celso L. Dayrit Fencing Championships in Ormoc, Leyte, last February 9-16, 2022.

Venice then goes on to say to other young, aspiring fencers, “Go for it! I’ll be honest, fencing is an expensive sport but there are many opportunities and the sport is very fun. So have fun and work hard!

Cheers to our Christian Legacy Sports Ambassadors! We pray for you all the best.
