MOCHA

He never makes himself coffee because he prefers the coffee I made for him. He favored the strong dark blend of coffee. Personally, I dislike the taste of it, and I dislike coffee since I, like my children, enjoy sweet drinks, particularly hot chocolate. I handed him the coffee I had made and left to get us food for breakfast and lunch.

Early in the morning, there were a number of people decorating each stall or building with different colors that signified Christmas. It was wonderful to see and reminded me that it was inching closer to Christmas Eve.

I was greeted by employees dressed as elves who offered me a warm smile as soon as I walked into the grocery store, and I went to get groceries.

It was already dusk since time flew by. I was sitting in the living room with my husband and kids, watching television and cuddling in a huge comfy blanket. I was enjoying the warmth, but as I remembered, we had to have drinks at this time of Christmas Eve because it was more like our everyday Christmas quality time activity. My kids and husband persuaded me to sit down and they'd make the drinks for us, just as I got out of the blanket.

I was genuinely surprised and waited eagerly for what they'd serve me as I heard laughter from the kitchen. As soon as the next show came on, they all walked over to me, and my youngest child brought me a steaming cup of what seemed to be hot chocolate. I kissed each of them and took a sip after thanking them all. As I drank the drink, they all glanced at me with interest. It was sort of like- just the proper amount of bitterness with the sweetness of chocolate overriding it. I was taken aback. I loved it. I gave them a sign that I had done so, and they all jumped with joy, as the room was filled with the fragrance of my drink.

The drink reminded me of each of my family members and the moments when I would offer them each a drink individually, but now it all comes together into one, one that I am holding onto right now, one that they thought about making as a thank you for my daily care and attention to them. Just to show that they love and appreciate me and the things I do for them.

And now, I would always drink it every day, even if it wasn't Christmas Eve, just a reminder of how much I savor the first time they made it for me. Which gave me a conclusion that no matter how small or big a present may be, the memory and the person who's given it makes it more precious than anything else. Merry Christmas.
